Peter Ellenby has been taking portraits of both Death Cab For Cutie and John Vanderslice for roughly the same amount of time, having first photographed Vanderslice (with his then-band MK-Ultra) in 1997 and DCFC for the first time in 1998.  Examining 15 years' worth of work shooting both acts reveals not only bodies of photographs that serve as gorgeous documents of amazing musicians' storied careers, but presents a unified group of work that exemplifies Ellenby's own stylistic progressions. From images that compositionally mirror each other and thus serve as beautiful reminders of the shared parts of both Vanderslice and DCFC's journeys, "DC/JV" presents its subjects' stories intimately, through the eyes of a photographer who has been there since the beginning. 

This show also serves as a celebration of the 20^th Noise Pop Festival, which Ellenby has officially photographed for the last 18 years. “The Noise Pop Festival is very near and dear to me and I wanted this show to represent what I see are the best parts of the Festival. First of all great music, and secondly a mix of both local and national acts, many of whom were given early opportunities at Noise Pop.  The fact that a bond also exists between Death Cab and John is fantastic as well. JV is like the glue that holds SF’s music scene together and Death Cab represent what a great stage Noise Pop has been for bands getting a shot during the Festival,” Says Ellenby.
